My mom crocheted for as long as i can remember; her specialty was slippers, which everyone in the family received for the holidays every single year. She stopped several years ago when the arthritis in her hands made it too painful for her. Mom taught me to crochet in my early teens and my first project was a granny square afghan consisting of one endless square made from yarn ends she'd collected forever. It's ridiculously colorful and i still have it... now all pilly from years of washing and drying without special care...
